Sculpting Change: Youth Led Litter Sculpture in Commerce City

The Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership is partnering with a dynamic group of youth in Commerce City to create a meaningful community centered sculpture. The unique twist? The sculpture is crafted from litter collected from the nearby Sand Creek Regional Greenway.  Beyond artistry, this project aims to educate the public on the wide-reaching impacts of improper waste disposal on the environment and our local community.

To help execute this project, The Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership (SCRGP) is looking for an artist or team of artists to help fabricate a sculpture conceptualized by the youth participants. Artists must be willing to work with youth ages 10-17 and undergo a background check. Three qualified artists will be selected to create proposals for an art piece that will be reviewed and chosen by the youth. The final selected artist will be paid $45/hour for a total of 130 hours ($5,850) and will be provided a budget for materials and supplies of $2,500.  The selected artist will be expected to engage youth in the fabrication process, including at least two studio visits.

Qualified artists who have a relevant body of work, art studio space and/or shop for working and storing the sculpture and materials, can submit their resumes, portfolio and artists statements through ArtCall.org by Friday, March 15 at 6 pm.
